KLM Travelpredictions

Here is another great example of good use of digital by KLM. Using the digital footprints we leave on Facebook, KLM Travelpredictions is able to "predict" a future travel destination based on the interest graph.

This was created by River. The service is launched in 25 markets and is now earning revenue from actual sales.

Smart SM response management.

There are number of cases where bad management of engagement on social media can become a nightmare for brands and people (tons of examples of late).

But here is a refreshing way to respond to a tweet. SmartCar responded to a tweeter who took a jab at and joked about bird poop totaling a SmartCar. It offered some compelling math and provided an infographic to show just how much bird poop it would actually take to total a car.

Smart social media management.

Coca Cola face recognition machine integrates with Facebook.

This is another great social/ offline integration by Coca Cola Israel.

This machine allows users to login to the Coca Cola app in real life using the face recognition feature, a very clever way to extend the offline experience to users’ friends and family through Facebook.

Also look at the previous campaign Coca Cola village.

Why Big Brands Are Dominating Social Media

In the pre-web days, unless you had a budget big enough for expensive mainstream ad vehicles, like TV, print or radio, it was hard to reach a significant audience with your message. Big marketers had a built-in advantage, and the big got bigger at the expense of the small. The emergence of the web, and especially social marketing, now means the highway to success now has many more "on ramps" for smaller companies.

So why is it, then, when we look at some of the most effective forms of social marketing, big marketers are vastly out-performing smaller ones?

SM beyond FB

In almost all my recent discussions with either brands or with management students, there is an increased awareness and interest on using social media to make their marketing initiatives more "conversational", however, for too many folks it gets limited to Facebook and Twitter.

Below is a good representation of what all should be involved;
